What it does not reach
Everybody’s articles. There is no index of what people have saved and there will not be one — building it would mean reading every private library to answer a stranger’s query. So an article turns up here in exactly two ways: it is in your own reading, or somebody who reads in the open put it on a list.
And not authors, yet. You can search a publication — New York Times, The Atlantic — because that is stored with every article. A byline is not: the app has never kept one, so there is nothing to match against. It is one column and the extractor already returns it, which makes it the most obviously missing thing on this page.
Nothing left this page
The whole index is in the browser already — eight kilobytes, loaded with the page. Typing here reaches no server, so nothing anywhere learns what you looked for. That is not a property of a preview; it is what search should be in a product that measures nobody.
Real articles, invented readers. Sixty-nine titles, sources, lengths and positions out of a working Fallow Reader library, unchanged. No article text is reproduced.
